Tonia Rouser, CRNA, MS
She/Her
Certified Registered Nurse Anesthestist
Nothing is all good or bad
one must assess risk vs benefit
and the benefit must outweigh the risk!
I have been in healthcare for over 30 years. My whole life has been dedicated to the care of people. I earned my Medical Assistant certificate in high school in vocational school. After completion of high school, I joined the U.S Navy where I became a Hospital Corpsmen. I served onboard the U.S.N.S Comfort during Operation Desert Storm. I received the Southwest Asia Medal and the Navy Unit Commendation for my wartime service. I continued my education to earn my BSN where I worked in emergency medicine, and cardiology. I ultimately pursed my Masters of Science in Anesthesia to become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I am originally from Detroit, MI. I worked at Henry Ford Hospital for 17yrs trauma level one where I cared for underserved population. This experience brought to the forefront how low socioeconomic status can lead to poor healthcare outcomes. I am proud to be apart of an organization aiming to understanding the social determinants of health which include healthcare access and quality; education access and quality; social and community context; economic stability: and neighborhood and built environments. As a member of Maji Rising healthcare committee, it is my duty to recognize health disparities, understand the why, and attempt to resolve them.
My favorite movie "Imitation of Life" release in 1959. This movie deals with race, class and gender.
